There has been buzz lately about Susan Boyle and the pilot of the U.S. Airways flight that had to emergency land in the Hudson, who saved everyone on the plane.
These everyday people were thrust into stardom in a matter of days. The YouTube video of Susan Boyle got over 14 million hits in just a day. Why is it that people are making such a big deal over these people and other 'normal' people just like them?
Perhaps it is because of the state our current situation is in, these stories provide us with hope and make us happy. It shows that normal people can do extraordinary things. A 'spinster' Boyle showed us that you shouldn't judge someone by how they look or what their life situation might be. Her voice inspired millions and put a lot of people who were doubting her in their place.
Chesley Sullenberger the pilot of the plane was calm and cool under pressure and safely landed the plane into the Hudson saving the lives of the 155 people on board. This average man did what he needed to do and inspired all of us that we can make a difference and that we are all heroes in our own way.
I love these stories that make national attention because they really help me to look more closely at the everyday people in my life and the heroic things they do everyday firefighters, cops, moms, teachers, friends, there are heroes in all of our lives and we might just be the heroes in others.
